Life has been a whirlwind ever since the American-born actress packed her bags for Saigon to star in “Passport to Love,” an acclaimed romantic comedy directed by Victor Vu. Uyen played Tiffany, a police officer and single mother in California who’s wooed by a student from Vietnam, a man she booked for a DUI. For her performance, she earned Vietnam film industry’s Golden Kite Award. The film debuted in Vietnam and U.S. theaters.
Following, Kathy starred opposite International Vietnamese star Dustin Nguyen (best known for 21 Jump Street) in “Fool for Love”, Vietnam’s top grossing box office hit. Kathy has also been in “How I Met Your Mother” and other notable film and television.
The producers saw a list of actresses in the search for the role of Natalie Wang, a strong minded independent Public Relations Director. Simon remembered Kathy from working with her in LA and asked her to audition. Kathy graciously put together a video from Vietnam and her audition video(uploaded to vimeo, how high tech!) won them over on the spot.
In working together, Kathy greatly contributed to Natalie’s character. She even flew in 1 year after shooting to work with Derek Ting to write and shoot an additional scene.
